Interested in sailing on a Thistle. Come to learn about crewing, skippering, or owning a Thistle. You will learn from seasoned skippers on land and on the water. If you‘ve sailed Thistles before but want to tune up your skills, come on out and get back into the boat.

To ensure that there is adequate support staff and equipment to conduct the training activities, interested participants must register online by Saturday night before the Tuesday evening clinic.

Tuesday nights are the perfect night for newer windsurfers who have completed a class to come out and practice their skills. Practice sail nights run every Tuesday from May through late summer. Experienced windsurfers will be available to help get you on the water. If there‘s enough interest, buoys will be set out for fun racing. This event may be cancelled if weather conditions are unsuitable.

Have you ever wanted to feel the wind in your hair, the sun on your face, and the waves lapping against the hull of your boat? Well, there is almost no better way than to join the Race Committee and spend a day on the water. Our Race Committee classes will teach you the basics of race management, the operation of the pontoon and safety boats, and conclude with an on-the-water practice for the first night of Laser racing.

This is a basic singlehanded sailing class that introduces anyone interested in learning to sail to the concepts of sailing, including:
- Sailing concepts
- Safety
- Boating rules of the road
- Sailing terminology
- Rigging and basic knots
- Capsize recovery

Please bring clothes that you can get wet in to each day of. The small boats that the class are taught in can capsize quite easily on windy days. Capsizing in small boats is a normal occurrence, and as part of the class, we will practice capsize recoveries so that you are familiar with how to recover the boat if you do capsize. A swim test is also part of the class - you will be asked to swim approximately 50 feet while wearing a PFD.

Items to Bring:

Closed-toe footwear you are comfortable wearing in the water. Flip Flops are not a good option!
Personal Flotation Device - LWSC has PFDs that can be used if you don‘t have your own.
Hat with visor
Sunglasses
A CHANGE OF DRY CLOTHES, TOWEL, AND DRY SHOES!
SNACKS AND WATER
